17-Year-Old Jovic Captures Guadalajara Title – Tennis Now

Seventeen-year-old Iva Jovic capped her dream week in Guadalajara by powering past Colombia’s Emiliana Arango, 6-4, 6-1, on Sunday to capture her maiden WTA title.

The Southern California native, ranked No.73, broke serve three consecutive times to close out a tight opening set, then dominated down the stretch, breaking serve six times overall and reeling off the final four games of the match to close the contest in one hour and 34 minutes.

At 17 years and 283 days, Jovic becomes the youngest player to win a title on tour in 2025, surpassing Dubai champion Mirra Andreeva by 16 days. She will make her Top 50 debut on Monday, rising to No.36.

“You showed so much fight and gave the people a show,” Jovic told Arango during the trophy ceremony, before praising the 24-year-old for her kindness. “It’s not easy to start out on tour when you’re young … but people like Emiliana make it easier and always have a smile on their face.”

Jovic showed her fight as well, winning three three-setters across her five matches in Mexico.
