2022 European Champion Lisa Mamié Bids Farewell To Competitive Waters
Lisa Mamié, winner of the 2022 European 200m breaststroke title, has brought the curtain down on her career.
The Swiss swimmer has been enduring severe shoulder problems over the past 12 months which have hastened her decision to step away from the pool.
She said on social media: “Despite everything, unfortunately, in the last year, I had increasing physical complaints, including shoulder pain, which keeps me from giving my usual 100% in the water. After consulting with several doctors and thinking long and hard about the situation and considering where I stand in my life, I have come to the conclusion that it is time to start a new chapter. The decision is not an easy one, because swimming is still very close to my heart and will always be, but given the circumstances, I think it is the right one to take.”
Mamié took the title in Rome in 2:23.27 ahead of Italian Martina Carraro (2:23.64) and Kotryna Teterevkova of Lithuania (2:24.16). It came a year after the two-time Olympian won 200 silver at the continental event in Budapest with her final international medals coming at the 2024 Europeans in Belgrade where she won 100 silver and 200 bronze.
