Texas A&M’s 2026 recruiting class is in good shape at wide receiver with four-stars Aaron Gregory, Madden Williams, and Mike Brown all firmly committed, and slated to sign with the program during ESD on December 4. Still, coach Mike Elko and WR coach Adam Cushing were looking to land the top slot receiver in the class, as four-star Jace Mathews, a Mississippi native, announced his commitment on Friday night.
While the Aggies made a solid push for the standout pass catcher over the last month, the Auburn Tigers, who have struggled on the recruting trail this summer, reportedly pulled out the red carpet financially, while the allure of playing with former five-star wide receiver Cam Coleman soon was too much to pass up after Mathew committed to the Tigers over LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M.

Texas A&M’s 2026 class features 27 commits. It is considered one of the best cycles overall, landing several future stars, including running backs KJ Edwards and Jonathan Hatton. At the same time, the defensive line haul includes five-stars Bryce Perry-Wright and Tristian Givens, paired with four-stars Jordan Carter and Jermaine Kinsler.
Landing Mathews would have been the icing on the cake. Still, in today’s recruiting landscape, it’s challenging to secure commitments for four of the top wide receivers while battling with 15 other SEC programs, especially an Auburn program that was beyond desperate to get things right before the 2025 season begins.
Moving on, five-star WR and LSU commit Tristian Keys remains a potential flip target. Still, if Gregory, Williams, and Brown are the only wide receiver commitments by the end of the year, Texas A&M is in good shape at one of the most critical positions.
