The recruitment of Argyle (Texas) Liberty Christian four-star linebacker Cooper Witten, the top-ranked LB in the 2027 cycle, has already picked up.
Top programs are working to establish themselves as contenders for the 6-foot-1, 210-pounder as he visits schools this fall. This weekend, Witten will be at Clemson for its game against Syracuse, he tells Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong.

The son of legendary NFL tight end Jason Witten has already gotten out to Oklahoma and Tennessee each of the last two weekends. He’s now set to get a look at Dabo Swinney’s program in Death Valley as it looks to rebound from its second loss of the season.
At the end of July, Witten spoke with Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman about some of the programs standing out early on his recruitment. Clemson was on that list and that’s thanks in large part to Swinney and defensive coordinator Tom Allen.
“Dabo has built an amazing culture at Clemson and they are very first class in everything they do,” Witten said. “The DC Coach Allen has been very consistent in recruiting me.”
Witten is the No. 21 overall prospect early on in the 2027 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. Along with being the No. 1 LB, he’s also the No. 4 junior in the Lone Star State.

Witten coming off big Tennessee visit
Last weekend, Witten was on Rocky Top and saw Tennessee fall just short in an overtime thriller against Georgia. His father played for the Vols and the SEC program would love to add him to the fold down the road, too.
“What excites me about my fit at Tennessee is just how much the coaches believe in me and the way they see me fitting into their defense,” Witten told Spiegelman after the trip to Knoxville.
Before Tennessee, Witten was at Oklahoma getting another look at the Sooners, who defeated Michigan in a primetime matchup. Brent Venables and Co. were the first to offer the potential five-star and they intend on being a factor when decision time rolls around, too.
“Really impressed with the Oklahoma defense,” Witten told Rivals after seeing OU win in Norman. “I thought they played really hard and were flying around all night.”
