The Oklahoma Sooners are coming off their first NCAA Tournament appearance of the Porter Moser era. They lost in the opening round to UConn but it was step in the right direction for Moser and the OU Basketball program.
After an offseason of turnover, the Sooners still have a lot to prove. They were left out of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll preseason rankings, released on Wednesday. Six SEC teams made the top 25, headlined by Florida at No. 3. The Gators come in behind the Purdue Boilermakers, who garnered 18 of a possible 31 first-place votes. Houston comes in at No. 2 after earning 12 first-place votes.

The other SEC teams that made the preseason top 25 were No. 9 Kentucky, No. 15 Arkansas, No. 16 Alabama, No. 17 Tennessee, and No. 22 Auburn. Vanderbilt, Texas, Ole Miss, and Missouri were all receiving votes.
The Oklahoma Sooners will have a fresh look once again after losing Jeremiah Fears and Jalon Moore to the NBA. But this team, led by point guard Nigel Pack and forward Tae Davis has a chance to be Moser’s most complete team during his tenure with the Sooners.
Oklahoma will begin play on Monday Nov. 3 when they host St. Francis at the Lloyd Noble Center as part of a back-to-back with the women’s basketball team who hosts Belmont for their season opener.
