Ruturaj Gaikwad shines against Himachal Pradesh

Gaikwad is undoubtedly one of the most promising batters in world cricket, but he has been quite unfortunate and is currently nowhere near Team India’s setup.

He started off his journey in the ongoing Buchi Babu Invitational tournament on a poor note as he registered the scores of 1 and 11 in a defeat in the first round against Chhattisgarh.

Then, Gaikwad skipped the second match of Maharashtra against the TNCA President’s XI, before returning to the playing XI for the third-round fixture, against Himachal Pradesh, which began on August 26.

Batting first in the match, Maharashtra lost Siddhesh Veer for 22, but Arshin Kulkarni joined forces with Ruturaj Gaikwad to bail the team out of trouble.

The duo built a 220-run stand that brought back the momentum towards Maharashtra, and both batters hit brilliant centuries. Ruturaj Gaikwad reached his century off 122 balls and finished his innings with a score of 133 runs off 144 deliveries.

Gaikwad’s innings was studded with 10 fours and 4 sixes – all of which came in the single over. The video of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper’s four incredible sixes in the same over quickly went viral on social media.

Ruturaj Gaikwad last played for India in 2024

Gaikwad was last seen in action for the India National Cricket Team in July 2024 in a T20I match against the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team.

Before his appearance in the Buchi Babu Invitational, Gaikwad was last seen in action in April 2025 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He was ruled out of the Indian Premier League 2025 due to an elbow injury and handed the captaincy to MS Dhoni.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was only able to participate in five matches in which he scored 122 runs at an average of 24.40 and a strike rate of 150.61, with two 50-plus scores.

After recovering from his injury, he travelled with the India A team to England for matches against England Lions, but didn’t get an opportunity to play the matches

He had also signed a deal with the Yorkshire County Cricket Club for five County Championship matches as well as the Metro Bank One-Day Cup..

However, days before his stint, he pulled out of his deal with Yorkshire County Cricket Club due to ‘personal reasons’.
