HOOK Returns to AEW and Chokes Out Wheeler Yuta in Surprise Attack

by

HOOK is officially back — and he didn’t waste any time making a statement.

During the August 27 episode of AEW Dynamite, Wheeler Yuta was in the middle of cutting a promo when the lights cut out in the 2300 Arena. Seconds later, the unmistakable HOOK spotlight lit up the wall, and fans instantly knew what was coming.

The crowd erupted as HOOK made his way through the darkness, hopped over the top rope, and immediately locked Wheeler Yuta in a sleeper hold. Yuta had no chance — HOOK dropped him and sent him flying out of the ring to a thunderous ovation.

This wasn’t just a one-off pop. As previously reported, HOOK has re-signed with AEW and is locked into a long-term deal. The company clearly has big plans for the former FTW Champion, and his first move back shows he’s picking up right where he left off — aggressive, cold, and calculated.

HOOK had been sidelined since Double or Nothing, where he appeared in the brutal Anarchy in the Arena match alongside Swerve Strickland, Kenny Omega, Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Katsuyori Shibata. He later revealed he’d been recovering from a concussion but always expected to return “soon.”

Now that he’s back — and back for the long haul — the only question is who’s next.

Did HOOK make the right call staying with AEW, or would a jump to WWE NXT have made more sense? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
