Special Olympics International Joins United Nations Football for the Goals Initiative

by

As one of the World’s leading football organizations for people with and without intellectual disabilities, Special Olympics is proud to become a member of the United Nations Football For The Goals initiative.

Football for the Goals is a UN initiative that provides a platform for the global football community to engage with and advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs encompass everything from health to gender equality and education, and they mobilize efforts around the world to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change by 2030. Football for the Goals taps into the power of football to champion the SDGs, and to also drive behavioural change and sustainable practices in the football industry.

Kicking off the membership, Special Olympics will present to the Football for the Goals members’ convening on 4 September, highlighting the football for development work Special Olympics does globally. The convening will include football stakeholders from around the globe from confederations, national associations, leagues, and clubs at all levels, player’s associations, organized fan groups, as well as media and commercial partners have also been invited to join this initiative.

This membership will lead to increased collaboration opportunities with all football stakeholders and showcase the leading efforts we make in working towards the UN SDGs.
