It’s always an interesting dynamic to find out which coaches will be on the field and which of them will be the eye in the sky, and on Friday, Notre Dame football announced where they will be this fall as shared my Mike Berardino.
Almost every single one of the Irish coaches will be on the field, as the only current coach that will be in the coaches box will be quarterback and passing game coordinator Gino Guidugli. It makes perfect sense for him to get the birds eye view of the field when you are in charge of the passing.

I do find it interesting that defensive coordinator Chris Ash will also be on the field, as like the passing, it is a bit easier to see the full view of an offense from the box. What it also tells me, is the Notre Dame’s coaches have full confidence in its analytics department, which shouldn’t come as a surprise. Head coach Marcus Freeman has assembled one of the top coaching staffs in the country, and it doesn’t end with his coordinators and position coaches.
What I do like about almost all of them being on the field is the direct access to coach up the players. It’s hard to do when they are in the box, so they’ll be plenty of that happening on Sunday.
