Ryan Lochte Takes to Social Media to Announce 54 Days of Sobriety; Says It’s ‘Up From Here’
Twelve-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte took to his Instagram account on Friday to announce he is 54 days sober. The 41-year-old, in a written comment and via video, indicated that he checked into a Florida recovery center to seek help. A positive and upbeat Lochte spoke about the support he received from the rehab center’s staff and emphasized the importance of seeking help when necessary.
In the video, Lochte noted that a 2023 car accident put him in “a really dark place,” and Lochte turned to substance abuse to deal with his struggles. He went on to say he needed to make a change in his life and admitting himself to a rehab facility was a major step.
“I’m motivated and I’m moving forward,” Lochte said. “I wanted to share this with you guys, especially my fans, because you guys are so important to me. In life, you’re going to get knocked down or hit a roadblock. It’s not how you get knocked out. It’s how you get back up.”
Lochte was a four-time Olympian for the United States, winning six gold medals, three silver medals and three bronze medals between 2004 and 2016. Lochte is the father to three children.
