Though the Mystics tumbled out of playoff contention over the past month, Citron and power forward Kiki Iriafen are Washington’s star duo of the future. Both rookies were named All-Stars this summer — and Citron on Sunday broke one of Caitlin Clark’s records, from the Indiana Fever guard’s historic rookie campaign of 2024.

Citron posted modest stats in Sunday’s 81-78 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks, the Mystics’ seventh consecutive loss. Citron, the #3 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft scored 12 points in 26 minutes, adding three assists, two rebounds and two steals.

But it was the 36th time in 41 career games that Citron scored 10 or more in a game — Clark reached double-digits 35 times on her way to winning Rookie of the Year last season.

Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers is likely to win the award for top rookie, but Citron’s under-the-radar consistency speaks to the talent level of the rookies taken behind Bueckers in the 2025 draft.

With Citron, Iriafen and the injured Georgia Amoore set to share the court beginning in 2026, the Mystics will be looking to kickstart their rebuild with a return to the playoffs next fall.
