Raul Rosas Jr. has elaborated on what led to his withdrawal from next week’s Noche UFC co-main event in Texas.
Rosas (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC), at just 20, already has asserted himself as one of the UFC’s top bantamweight prospects. Monday, he too the rare step of revealing the nature of the injury that took him out of a fight against Rob Font is still fighting at UFC Fight Night 259, the promotion’s annual Noche UFC event to commemorate Mexico’s independence day celebrations.
Rosas said he injured a rib while trying to escape a submission during training.
“As much as i wanted this fight to prove myself against the best in the world, won’t be able to make it,” Rosas posted on Instagram. “Injured my rib in training when I had someone on my back with a locked body triangle I was trying to escape by spinning away and pulled it. I tried to push through it but didn’t heal & won’t fully heal in time. Barely starting to get back into normal training so hopefully I’ll be back soon. Can’t wait to be back and earn my spot again against a top 15. Working my way up🏆. Looking to heal soon and step back in the cage 2 more times this year. 👊🏾 #godsplan🙏“
In the wake of Rosas’ sudden withdrawal, Font (22-8 MMA, 12-7 UFC) now will fight David Martinez (12-1 MMA, 1-0 U FC) in the new short-notice co-feature Sept. 13 at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.
