Matt Fitzpatrick on Luke Donald’s pick: My form’s a real positive

by

After Luke Donald, the captain of the European team, officially confirmed his six picks yesterday, there were immediate reactions from the public, who have their favorites.

Although the list was mostly expected, some names may have surprised.

Among Donald's six picks is Matt Fitzpatrick, a golfer about whom the public has mixed emotions.

While he's had some great moments this season and plenty of Ryder Cup experience, some aren't sure his previous performances inspire optimism.

The 31-year-old golfer did not have a great start to the season, but in recent weeks he knew that he had to have maximum dedication and concentration, securing himself a place in the European Ryder Cup team.

While some golfers feel a lot of pressure when they are not sure if they will be part of the team, the English golfer had a special mindset and managed to recover, thus winning the trust of the European captain.

"Yeah, it's always exciting. It's a nice birthday present and to spend the day talking to you guys."- Fitzpatrick said.

"Yeah, there's a lot of belief after the last few weeks, obviously. Like Luke said, I felt like I turned my game around from the start of the season, and to finish this Ryder Cup run with the form I've showed is obviously a real positive. Obviously it would be lovely to continue that into Bethpage."

Fitzpatrick's career

Matt Fitzpatrick is a 31-year-old golfer who has won a major; U.S. Open in 2022. He turned professional in 2014 and immediately showed great potential.

He was also part of the European team that celebrated against the Americans two years ago in Rome, when the Europeans immediately showed with a furious start that the US team would have a difficult task.

However, this time they will not have such an easy task, given that the Americans are looking for revenge, and in addition they have the support of the home crowd, which is often the key to success at every Ryder Cup.
