How former Georgia QB Jaden Rashada performed in his first start since 2023

by

Former Georgia Bulldogs and Arizona State Sun Devils quarterback Jaden Rashada played in his first college football game since 2023 on Saturday. Rashada started for the Sacramento State Hornets as they played the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in a 20-3 road loss.

Rashada and Sacramento State struggled to move the ball all day against on of the top teams in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), South Dakota State. Rashada completed less than half of his passes in his first game action since his time at Arizona State.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound quarterback completed 11 of 27 passes for 107 yards and one interception in the Hornets’ defeat. He also fumbled once, but his team recovered. Rashada took seven carries for minus-nine yards (in college sacks count against a quarterback’s rushing statistics).

He received little support from his team’s rushing attack (24 carries for 24 yards). Sacramento State only managed seven first downs all game.

The sophomore actually had an opportunity to make things interesting in the fourth quarter. Trailing 17-3, he found one of his receivers on a deep third down pass in the end zone, but his receiver dropped the ball. One play later Sacramento State turned the ball over on downs.

Rashada’s game was not as bad as the statistics would suggest, but he will be looking to improve next week against Nevada (Football Bowl Subdivision).
