The 29-year-old India National Cricket Team fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has opened up on his ugly altercation with the England National Cricket Team modern-day batting great Joe Root during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Prasidh Krishna revealed that he didn’t say anything bad to Joe Root, and the England player got furious for no reason and started to abuse him.
What exactly happened between Prasidh Krishna and Joe Root?
During the fifth and final Test match of the five-match series between India and England, Prasidh and Joe Root were engaged in a heated war of words.
Your daily dose of cricket!
It was quite a surprising visual to see because the second-highest run-getter in Test cricket history, Joe Root, is known for his calm personality, and he rarely loses his cool on the field.
A never-before-seen version of Root was seen during his altercation with Krishna, which started during the 22nd over of England’s innings on Day 2.
On the 5th ball of the over, Prasidh Krishna bowled a good length beauty just outside off-stump to Root, who hung back to defend, and the ball moved away slightly to beat the outside edge.
Krishna was seen saying some words to Root in his follow-through, and the England batter fired back with full force, passing on some comments.
Then, on the sixth and final ball of the over, Root hit a length delivery from Krishna through gully for a four. After that, Joe Root and Prasidh Krishna were seen engaging in yet another heated verbal spat. Root was totally fired up and looked very miffed while saying some things to the Indian pacer, and umpire Kumar Dharmasena had to intervene.
I don’t know why Rooty reacted – Prasidh
In a recent interview with ESPNCricinfo, Prasidh revealed that he had a chat with Root after the incident and clarified that he didn’t abuse him. Prasidh Krishna elaborated:
“I don’t know why Rooty reacted. I just said, ‘you’re looking in great shape’ and then it turned into a lot of abuse and all of that. I did go and speak to most of them – including Root. I asked him what happened. He said, ‘I thought you abused me’. I said, ‘No’, and he replied, ‘I actually just wanted to get myself going as well, so I had to pump myself up’.”
A legend like him, putting it all out there and fighting – Prasidh
Prasidh Krishna also showered rich praise on Joe Root for fighting for his team and putting his 100% effort every time he walks in the middle. He said:
“That’s what I love about the sport – that’s the way I’ve always played it. To see everybody, and especially a legend like him, putting it all out there and fighting for the team, even today, that’s something for everyone to learn from. You’re out there to fight, to win battles. Sometimes it takes a lot more than just skill; it takes a lot of mental grit to be part of that journey.”
