by

Nebraska football linebacker Vincent Shavers Jr. was named to Pro Football Focus’s National Team of the Week on Wednesday. He played in 29 snaps and had a run defense grade of 56.2, along with a tackling grade of 76.7, per metrics from Pro Football Focus. Where he really showed up, according to the metrics, was his performance in coverage. He had a 92 coverage grade and an overall grade of 90.3.

Statistically, the Florida product had three tackles. One of them was a big hit that caused a forced fund. It was a solid debut for a sophomore looking to make his mark on the defense.

The hope is that Shavers will be able to get more playing time this Saturday against Akron. He had a chance to be an integral part of this defense for years to come, and he possesses the playmaking ability to get it done. Saturday would be a solid opportunity for him to showcase his skill set.

Nebraska (1-0) will continue the nonconference portion of its 2025 college football season on Saturday, Sept. 6, when the Huskers host the Akron Zips (0-1) at Memorial Stadium. The kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be the 404th consecutive sellout in Memorial Stadium history.
