The Oklahoma Sooners will play a massive Week 2 game against the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday night, but it may have gotten even bigger for the future of the program on Friday afternoon.
Peyton Houston, who is OU’s top priority at the quarterback position in the 2027 recruiting class, has announced his commitment date. Houston, who is from Shreveport, Louisiana, will commit on Monday, September 15.

Houston will reportedly be in attendance for OU-Michigan on Saturday, and his commitment will come nine days after the big Week 2 tilt. As if Saturday’s game wasn’t big enough, Oklahoma now has one more set of eyes to impress, and if things go well, the Sooners could land a QB very early in the recruiting process. Houston is rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports Composite and the No. 11 quarterback in the country. He is in his junior season at Evangel Christian Academy.
New Oklahoma offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Ben Arbuckle has made it clear that Houston is his top target in the ’27 class at quarterback. Houston stands a 5-foot-11 and weighs 198 pounds. He threw for 38 touchdowns to only six interceptions as a sophomore, and also added seven rushing touchdowns.
Though Arbuckle wasn’t the initial offensive coordinator in Houston’s recruitment, Oklahoma’s OC has made a strong impression.
“Coach (Ben) Arbuckle is a great guy,” Houston told Sooners Wire back in March. “He knows how to have fun with the guys and also commands them and leads them in the right direction. He does a great job of having the offense fit around the quarterback’s strengths, allowing the offense to be as efficient as possible.”

OU’s top competition for Houston is expected to be the USC Trojans, but Scott Schrader, who is a USC insider, has logged a prediction for Houston to land in Norman. The Texas Longhorns are also interested in Houston.
Currently, Oklahoma’s quarterback room consists of John Mateer, Michael Hawkins Jr., Whitt Newbauer, and Jett Niu. The Sooners also have a commitment from four-star prospect Bowe Bentley in the 2026 recruiting class.
OU has extended offers to two other quarterbacks in the ’27 class. One went to Trae Taylor, who is committed to Nebraska, and the other went to Jonathan Moore, who is uncommitted. Additionally, the Sooners have one offer out to a quarterback in the 2028 class. It went to Graham Simpson, out of the state of Tennessee.
Oklahoma gets one more opportunity to roll out the red carpet for Houston this weekend for the Michigan game. He’s one of reportedly more than 75 prospects expected to be in attendance for the blue blood showdown.
