AJ Lee is back.
The September 5 episode of WWE SmackDown was quite an episode in the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. Rosemont. This was a huge night, especially for fans who love a good return.
WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins showed up during the final segment of the show this week. He appeared in the crowd, which was a ballsy move. CM Punk chants filled the arena as the Visionary proclaimed that he was going to be the death of the Second City Savior. Then Rollins introduced his “sexy, beautiful, incredible, Irish wife,” Becky Lynch.
The Man came out and got in the ring as Rollins remained within the fans, and they blew kisses to each other before getting started. Fans chanted for AJ Lee in a huge way, and Becky Lynch didn’t like hearing that at all. Becky then started saying that all the Chicago teams suck, but she didn’t get to the Bears. Then she said that CM Punk sucks.
Fans berated Becky Lynch with boos as Punk’s music hit, and then they exploded for their home city hero. Punk got in the ring with Becky, and he was ready to address Lynch attacking him, especially the part where he said that he would find someone who would hit her.
After waiting a minute for “CM Punk” chants to die down, the Voice of the Voiceless said this is about Becky Lynch’s “coward of a husband,” and not her. Becky asked if he was embarrassed and Punk said he has nothing to be embarrassed of because he’s not hiding out in a box for protection. Becky Lynch then asked Punk how his face is feeling after she slapped him. Fans belted out “AJ Lee” chants, and Lych told them to shut up.
Then CM Punk said that Lynch will let fans chant the name AJ Lee. He then pointed out that he is in Chicago, and that is home turf for him. Punk’s sister was on the front row, and Lynch asked if she wanted some. Then Punk asked if she didn’t think he could call in a favor with Rhea Ripley. Then Becky started slapping CM Punk over and over again.
Instead of doing something, Punk left the ring. At that point, he said that he would never put his hands on a lady, but he has someone who will. At that point, AJ Lee’s music hit, and she made her way out, looking very driven to skip her way up to Becky Lynch. However, Lynch didn’t seem to want anything to do with her. Fans chanted “holy sh*t,” and then Lee took Lynch down with a Thesz press and some strikes before she finally licked her hand and slapped The Man right in the face. After Lynch ran off, Punk and Lee embraced in the ring as Chicago went ballistic during the closing moments of the show.
The women’s division just gained a big star with AJ Lee’s return, and she’s far more than a nostalgia act. We will have to see what she has in the ring, but she certainly made a lot of noise in Chicago.
