George MacIntyre could make his Tennessee football debut when the Vols host ETSU at Neyland Stadium on Sept. 6.
The freshman was one of the top quarterbacks in the nation and he is one of the backups to senior starter Joey Aguilar.

George MacIntyre is one of two Tennessee football backup quarterbacks
MacIntyre is one of the three scholarship quarterbacks for the Vols. Aguilar won the starting competition during the preseason and was named QB1 on Aug. 17.
MacIntyre and Jake Merklinger were listed as co-backups on the initial depth chart prior to Tennessee’s season opener. The pair competed in the preseason to be the starting quarterback.
George MacIntyre was a four-star quarterback in the 2025 class
The 6-foot-6, 190-pound MacIntyre was ranked as a four-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite.

He was the No. 13 quarterback prospect and the No. 151 overall recruit nationally. When he committed in January 2024, MacIntyre was ranked as the No. 15 player in the country and the No. 3 QB.

George MacIntyre comes from a football family
MacIntyre’s football ties run deep in his family.
He is the grandson of the late George MacIntyre, who was the Vanderbilt coach from 1979-85. His uncle, Mike MacIntyre, has been the coach at San Jose State, Colorado and Florida International. He coached defensive backs with the Dallas Cowboys (2003-06) and New York Jets (2007). He is a defensive analyst at Mississippi State.

George MacIntyre put up big numbers at Brentwood Academy
MacIntyre threw for 8,293 yards with 62 touchdowns in 36 games at Brentwood Academy in Nashville.
He threw for 2,723 yards
For his career, he threw for 8,293 yards (230.4 ypg) with 62 touchdowns in 36 games … As a senior, completed 187-pf-283 passes for 2,723 yards (226.9 ypg) to go along with nine rushing touchdowns … As a junior, completed 67.3 percent of his passes for 3,229 yards and 25 touchdowns while earning first-team all-state honors and being a finalist for player of the year … Led Brentwood Academy to the 2023 state quarterfinals

Also played basketball, guiding Brentwood Academy to the Division II-AA state championship as a sophomore and a state runner-up finish as a junior
