Fever overcome injury-riddled season, clinch 2025 WNBA playoffs spot

by

Despite enduring a series of injuries, including what proved to be season-ending for Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever (23-20) secured a ticket to the 2025 WNBA Playoffs on Sunday with a dominant 94-65 victory over the Washington Mystics (16-27) from CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, Md.

While the Fever have played most of the season with an assortment of hardship contract players due to the numerous injuries and the complexity of the team’s roster regulations under the league’s current CBA, Indiana was able to collectively persevere through the setbacks in order to qualify for the WNBA playoffs for the second consecutive year.

In Sunday’s victory, Natasha Howard led the Fever with 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field and 5-for-7 from the free-throw line in her 24 minutes of action. Also contributing on offense were Aerial Powers and Shey Peddy, who combined for 28 points off the bench on 10-for-15 shooting from the field, 5-for-6 from 3-point territory, to go along with eight rebounds, four assists, three steals, and one block.

Aliyah Boston recorded her 17th double-double on the campaign with 12 points and 11 rebounds, further extending her franchise record for double-doubles in a single season.

Despite making the playoffs, Indiana’s final game of the regular season still holds importance as the team can still earn as high as the No. 6 seed with a win and help from other teams.

Their final regular-season game will be on Tuesday night from Gainbridge Fieldhouse against the league-leading Minnesota Lynx (33-9) at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN.
