Nikki Bella has been back in the fold since the Royal Rumble and while she’s currently her “Fearless Nikki” persona, it seems she actually wants to change up her character already.
While speaking on the Nikki and Brie Show, Nikki Bella explained that she wants to evolve her WWE character rather than rely only on nostalgia.
When she first returned, her direction changed quickly after starting with Liv Morgan. Personally, her goals were to get back into peak physical and wrestling shape, and also to adapt to the style of today’s era. She wanted to test herself, see how far she could go outside her comfort zone, and figure out how she fits into the modern wrestling scene.
“It’s crazy because at first, when I was coming back, I didn’t know what to expect. I knew what my first direction was, and then that all changed with Liv Morgan.
But for me personally, one thing I wanted out of this comeback—and still do—is to get back into my strong shape, my wrestling shape, and to get to where I used to be years ago. Physically that’s part of it, but it’s also about getting myself into the wrestling space of this new era. How far can I push myself beyond my comfort zone? How can I hang in this era? Who am I as a wrestler now? Am I going to change that?”
Nikki Bella has always been known as a powerhouse, but after her neck injury she had to change her style. Now she wants to change again and keep evolving. At first, she thought about keeping “Fearless Nikki” the same for nostalgia, since fans already knew and recognized that version of her.
Right now she wants to make changes to the character. Bella works closely with WWE’s creative team every week and enjoys how different it feels compared to before. Instead of just being handed promos, there are open talks and new ideas, even on the day of the show.
“I’ve always been known as more of a powerhouse, but that changed a bit when I came back from my broken neck. I had to adjust my move set and my craft. Now I know I’m going to do that again—I want to evolve.
In the beginning, I wanted to keep Fearless Nikki as Fearless Nikki, because to me, my comeback was more about nostalgia. Like, here’s this Hall of Famer, this legend—let’s keep her the same. That was my mindset. And you know me, I’m a marketing machine, so I wanted to keep what was marketable, what people recognized me as.
But now that I’m in it, I actually want to change her a little bit. I think it’d be a lot of fun. I work with creative every week, hands-on. I love being hands-on. Everyone there is—it’s very different than before. Even with promos, we used to just get handed something, but now it’s way different. It’s cool—you just sit, talk about it, and they give you the basis of the idea, but everything can change the day of. It was never like this before, and I love it.”
Nikki Bella made it clear she is excited to take “Fearless Nikki” in a new direction. While she would love to be a heel again, she also enjoys the challenge of being a babyface in today’s era. For her, it’s fun and exciting, and she’s looking forward to what comes next.
“So now I’m excited to maybe push Fearless Nikki in a different direction. Deep down, of course, I’d love to go back heel, but it’s also fun to take on the challenge of being a babyface in this new era, which is so different. That’s been something really exciting for me. I can’t wait to see what’s next.”
Nikki Bella challenged Becky Lynch for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Title at Clash in Paris but ultimately came up short. So now we’ll have to see what WWE has planned for her, as it’s clear Bella wants to change things up in a big way.
