It was violent. It was captivating. It was weird.
Steven Asplund brought a little bit of everything in his UFC contract-earning appearance Tuesday at Dana White’s Contender Series 81.
Not only did Asplund (6-1) finish CFFC heavyweight champion Anthony Guarascio (3-1) in 16 seconds with a combination of punches and elbows, he made the most of his time on the microphone thereafter.
Asplund, 27, soaked in the moment, particularly because of who it came against. He said Guarascio, a big personality, and his team had talked a lot of smack in the lead-up to the fight. Asplund then talked about how he lost over 300 pounds training MMA, and how his father Kevin was a former MMA fighter who won 15 fights in a row but never made it to the UFC.
He then dropped an all-time line when pleading his case to the UFC.
“I’ll do anything. I’ll suck your toes, Dana,” Asplund said with a smile. “What’s up?”
Whether he heard the offer or not, White offered Asplund a UFC deal moments later.
