DWCS 81 bout ends with fighter slumped after delayed knockout reaction

by

Samuel Sanches brought the violence in scary fashion Tuesday at the UFC Apex.

At Dana White’s Contender Series 81, Sanches (11-1) slumped Chasen Blair (7-4) with a punching combination for a stoppage at 2:01 of Round 1.

The University of North Carolina wrestling standout Blair looked good early, but Sanches turned the tide when he stunned Blair with a punch. Blair punished the body, then connected on a right hand. Blair absorbed it, but then dropped to the canvas a second later as a left hand whiffed by.

Blair was down for an elongated period of time, but according to the broadcast left the cage under his own power.

Sanches, 22, likely earned himself a UFC deal with what was his eighth career knockout. He’s a member of Galpao da Luta, the team that bred UFC heavyweight contender Jailton Almeida.

Up-to-the-minute DWCS 81 results include:

  • Steven Asplund (5-1) vs. Anthony Guarascio (3-0)
  • Lerryan Douglas (12-5) vs. Cam Teague (9-1)

  • Samuel Sanches def. Chasen Blair via knockout (punches) – Round 1, 2:01
  • Carol Foro def. Shanelle Dyer via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
