Former Texas Football DT removed from LSU’s roster after offseason transfer

by

A former Texas Longhorns defensive tackle has been removed by his new team. LSU has reportedly dropped Sydir Mitchell from its roster. Mitchell transferred to Baton Rouge in the offseason after he went back and forth on whether to enter the portal.

Mitchell did not appear in either of the LSU’s first two games to start the 2025 season but the defensive tackle was with the team throughout fall camp.

Back in December, the Oradell, NJ native changed his mind about entering the portal twice in four days. First, he announced he was entering the transfer portal. The next day he reversed his decision and declared he was staying at Texas, only to reverse course again. He ended up at LSU.

Tigers coach Brian Kelly made it a point to upgrade the defensive line in the offseason and Mitchell seemed like a great fit.

Mitchell, a former four-star prospect, played in five games in 2024. In the 2023 recruiting class he ranked as the No. 205 player nationally and the No. 25 defensive lineman, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Mitchell had 20 offers during his original recruitment, including Arkansas, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Ole Miss, Tennessee and USC.
