The Oklahoma Sooners head into Week 3 flying high after a big win over the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday night. The Sooners climbed in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25 and have gained some momentum in the latest update to the ESPN Matchup Predictor.
The Sooners may have a big win under their belt but there’s still a lot to prove with a schedule chalk-full of land mines and pitfalls. We’ll see where they end up after they get through their difficult SEC slate, but two weeks into the season, Oklahoma’s impressed the analysts from SEC Network. Dari Nowkah, Alyssa Lang, Benjamin Watson, and Chris Doering released their SEC rankings after Week 2 and the Oklahoma Sooners rank in the top five on all four lists.

The Sooners came in behind only LSU and Georgia in their cumulative rankings. LSU opened the season with a statement win over Clemson in Week 1. While Georgia has only played Marshall and Austin Peay, they get the benefit of the doubt under Kirby Smart. They’re as consistent a program as there has been over the last decade and are the back-to-back defending SEC champions.
Among the four analysts, the Sooners average rank 3.25, with Doering and Nowkah placing the Sooners at No. 2 in their SEC rankings. Lang had the Sooners at No. 4 in the SEC while Watson had OU at No. 5.
Oklahoma will need to take care of business this week against Temple without looking ahead too far to the Auburn Tigers, who come to town on Sept. 20 for their SEC opener.
