Diego Ferreira vs. Alexander Hernandez Noche UFC preview

Ferreira (19-6 MMA, 10-6 UFC) started his year off on the wrong foot with a unanimous decision loss to Grant Dawson at UFC 311. That result halted the momentum of back-to-back stoppage wins against Michael Johnson and Mateusz Rebecki. Hernandez (17-8 MMA, 9-7 UFC) has apparently figured some things out and is running hot on a three-fight winning streak for the first time in the UFC. His current run consists of decision wins over Austin Hubbard and Kurt Holobaugh, followed by a first-round finish of Chase Hooper at UFC 319 in August.

Diego Ferreira vs. Alexander Hernandez UFC expert pick, prediction

Serving as a solid offering at lightweight is a matchup between two Texas natives, Alexander Hernandez and Carlos Diego Ferreira.

Although Ferreira is currently clocking in at 40 years old, the Brazilian is a proven warhorse whose style has both refined and aged surprisingly well over his UFC tenure. In fact, if Ferreira can effectively channel his pressure-based ways this Saturday, I suspect that he could be a stylistic foil for Hernandez.

I want to make sure that I give credit to Hernandez and acknowledge his recent run and the efforts that come with it. The potential problem, however, is that I also suspect that Hernandez is still largely allergic to pressure from a style perspective.

Hernandez catching a body early is certainly on the table, but I’ll officially side with Ferreira to steadily cook his counterpart and secure a submission in Round 2.

Diego Ferreira vs. Alexander Hernandez Noche UFC odds

Despite the oddsmakers opening the American as the slight favorite, enough public money has come in on the Brazilian to push this fight to near pick’em price tags, listing Ferreira -118 and Hernandez +100 via FanDuel.
