Former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III believes Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed has vaulted to the front of the Heisman conversation after his dramatic performance against Notre Dame.

“Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed, welcome to the top of the Heisman Race,” Griffin wrote on social media after Reed engineered a game-winning touchdown drive that delivered the Aggies’ first road win over a ranked opponent since 2014.
For Reed, the night was all about execution in the clutch. “Just finish. That’s been our word all offseason,” he said. “Even though tonight wasn’t our best football, I think we fought all the way through. It went down to the last play offensively, to fourth down, and we converted.”
That last play belonged to tight end Nate Boerkircher, the Nebraska transfer who found himself in single coverage against a linebacker. Reed trusted him with the season on the line. “I kind of just threw the ball up to Nate. He has arguably the best hands on the team,” Reed explained. “I told him I loved him. He caught a big one for us.”

Boerkircher later admitted the moment felt surreal. “I was blinded by the lights,” he said. “I saw it right before it got into my hands. Luckily, it was a great ball. It just appeared.”
Reed also dismissed any doubts about his arm talent. “I never really cared what people said about me throwing the ball. I know I can throw,” he said. “We had a lot of explosive plays. That’s the name of the game for us.”
