Aryna Sabalenka is known as a tennis player who openly shows her emotions and is not afraid to reveal interesting details at times. Many consider her to be one of the mentally strongest tennis players and wonder what the recipe for her success is.
In addition to the qualities she possesses, it is certain that the mental aspect of the game played an important role.
In an interview for the Jay Shetty podcast, the Belarusian tennis player emphasized conversations with a sports psychologist, but she realized that these conversations did not bring her the benefits she expected.
Aryna realized that she had to take responsibility for her actions and turn her career on the right track.
From that moment on, it seemed that she began to play much better and record even better results.
“I worked with a sports psychologist for four or five years,"-she said, as quoted by WTA Tennis.
"We did some sort of meditation. We did a lot of things at the beginning of my career, but then I found that I was relying on her so much. I was expecting her to fix my problems, my emotions, and I was repeating the same mistake over and over again.
I was getting upset about that, so at some point I decided, ‘OK, I have to take responsibility over my actions.’ I stopped working with the psychologist, and that was the moment I started learning about myself, when I actually understood myself better. I started to control my emotions much better, and it felt more balanced when I took that responsibility."
Sabalenka does not reject the option of re-collaborating with a psychologist
While some understood this as a message from the Belarusian tennis player that cooperating with psychologists does not bring benefits, she does not want to say that, but wants to emphasize that sometimes it is necessary to feel your emotions.
Sabalenka knows how important it is to first feel them, and then to express them.
Aryna did not rule out the possibility of collaborating with a psychologist again in the future and possibly including meditation in her daily routine.
