Jovic Hits Top 50 – Tennis Now

17-year-old Iva Jovic capped her dream week in Guadalajara by powering past Colombia’s Emiliana Arango, 6-4, 6-1, on Sunday to capture her maiden WTA title. The Southern California native, who was ranked No.293 this time last year, soars into the Top 50 for the first time as a result, landing at No.36.

Jovic, from Torrance, Ca., is now the seventh highest-ranked American, and one of ten in the Top 50.

In SΓ£o Paulo, 19-year-old Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah became the first French teenager to win a WTA title since OcΓ©ane Dodin in Quebec City in 2016. The victory pushes her up 83 spots in the rankings, from No.214 to No.131.

Runner up Emiliana Arango continued her strong season in Guadalajara, by reaching her second WTA 500 final of the year. The 24-year-old Colombian jumps 33 spots from No.86 to No.53, and overtakes Camila Osorio (No.85) as the highest-ranked Colombian player.

There was no movement inside the Top 20 this week. Aryna Sabalenka remains 3292 points ahead of Iga Swiatek and begins her 56th week at No.1.
