An early standout MVP for the Texas A&M football team is Mario Craver. When he committed to the Aggies via the transfer portal, most fans anticipated gaining a talented football player. To this point, it’s fair to say he has far exceeded expectations.
On Monday, the Associated Press announced Craver as their AP Player of the Week following a jaw-dropping performance: seven receptions, 207 yards, and one touchdown on the road against Notre Dame. How a player can earn AP Player of the Week honors and not SEC Player of the Week is a debate for another day. But heading into the game, the burning question was how Texas A&M’s passing attack would fare against two NFL-caliber cornerbacks.

Craver answered that question emphatically and early. He showed everyone why they call him “Super Mario” when he turned a routine 12-yard pass into an electrifying 86-yard sprint to the end zone, immediately responding to Notre Dame’s blocked punt touchdown. After catching the short pass, Craver spun out of a tackle with dazzling agility and blazed down the sideline, leaving defenders in his wake. In that moment, it became clear: Craver is built for big moments in high-stakes games.
Currently, Craver leads the NCAA with 443 receiving yards, is tied for third in touchdowns (4), and stands alone as the only wide receiver in the nation averaging over 20 yards per reception with at least 16 catches. He’s well on his way to becoming Texas A&M’s next 1,000-yard receiver, the first since Josh Reynolds racked up 1,039 yards in 2016.
The future is undeniably bright for Craver, and he’s only just getting started.
