Boris Becker has spoken openly about how difficult his time in prison was for him many times. Few expected the tennis legend to end up in a prison cell after being found guilty of hiding assets to avoid paying debts. Although he was originally supposed to spend 30 months in prison, the German tennis player was released after eight months.
In his book, in which he openly described his time in prison, Becker revealed how difficult it was to endure various mistreatments and unpleasant situations.
He recounted a chilling experience when he was returning from lunch with a tray of food and found Zac. The situation seemed chaotic, but in the end Becker could be happy with how it all ended.
"One day, I was coming back from lunch with my tray of food. As I passed Ike's cell, Zac was in there. 'Hey. What are you doing in Ike's cell?' I said. He came straight at me. 'Who are you? I'm going to break your head. I'm going to slit your throat. I'm going to kill you'.
He started kissing my hand and saying sorry," said Becker, as quoted by tennisuptodate.
"He wasn't just apologising to me but to Ike, who was the boss on our wing."
Imprisonment and experiences
When Boris Becker was released from prison in 2022, he immediately emphasized how difficult the experience was for him. In prison, you are “nobody and nothing”, and everything is quite different than when you are free. The German tennis player had many questions in his head and analyzed his actions, aware of how many mistakes he had made.
Such experiences change you deeply, change your understanding and outlook on life, but they can also teach you an important lesson. Becker admitted that he got a few positive things out of it, and it is certain that he will have a different approach in the future and avoid anything that is against the law.
