Movsar Evloev has entered the chat as the top UFC featherweight contenders continue to lobby for a title shot.
Evloev hasn’t competed since defeating Aljamain Sterling at UFC 310 last December. He was scheduled to face Aaron Pico this past July in Abu Dhabi but withdrew due to injury. In the meantime, Lerone Murphy knocked out Pico at UFC 319, Sterling outpointed Brian Ortega in the UFC Fight Night 257 co-headliner, and Diego Lopes knocked out Jean Silva this past Saturday at Noche UFC.
So who deserves the next shot at UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski? Evloev (19-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) made his case but is also willing to notch one more win if necessary.
“Congratulations Diego Lopes, letβs do the rematch or maybe I can fight Lerone Murphy, it doesnβt matter any of these two guys.”
Although Murphy was mentioned by Volkanovski as a potential option, Evloev doesn’t seem to think it will be him.
“Hey man, youβre probably not gonna get this title shot and me and you will end up fighting, Iβm looking forward to it. But, if you do end up getting the title shot then Good Luck.”
Volkanovski’s most recent fight was a title win over Lopes at UFC 314. Evloev also holds a win over Lopes, and the Russian fighter thinks he has the key to dethroning the champion.
“Iβm the only guy who can beat Volk right now, but if I have to fight Lerone or Diego then I have no problem doing it.”
Evloev argued that his resume tops all the other contenders before turning to the fans to vote on whom he should fight next.
“I beat Diego Lopes, Arnold Allen and Aljamain Sterling very easy. Nobody deserve anything and if any of them want to fight me again I have no problem.”
