NXT opened up in a big way this week.
WWE NXT’s September 16 episode was a very special one. The brand presented a Homecoming special as they returned to Full Sail Arena for the first time in over 2,000 days.
The brand had a throwback themed intro, with the old NXT song interlaced with current talent, including Joe Hendry. Then, as everything got going, The Game’s music hit.
Triple H came out as fans in Full Sail Arena lost their minds. He made his way to the ring and fans chanted his name. He started out his brief promo by saying, “I cannot tell you how much it means to come home.” That was followed by “Welcome home” chants from fans.
The WWE COO spoke about how special the building is, and how every talent who walked out of the back was special. He also thanked everyone who made this possible over the years while making a point that “what is really special about this is all of you, everyone who’s in this building right now, everyone’s who’s at home watching on The CW, you are special. You are why this is here. You are why NXT is stronger than ever.”
After Triple H got fans to chant “NXT” one more time, he said that their passion for the brand, along with the talent, turned that brand into a roar. In essence, their passion “allowed NXT to take over.” Triple H wrapped up his promo by saying that fans are the people who said that NXT’s future is now, and he received an incredibly loud “WE ARE NXT” chant from fans.
As it seemed that Triple H was wrapping it up, Shawn Michaels came out as fans sang his song back to him, even after they cut it off. He said that everyone is thrilled to have Triple H at NXT Homecoming, but he and his NXT Superstars are ready to “steer this ship into the future.” After that, fans chanted “thank you, Shawn.”
Then Triple H said, “what if I said I wanted to come back.” Shawn Michaels said that they would have a “very, very big problem” and William Regal made his way out next. Fans chanted for Regal as he started to say, “gentlemen please, I know how to settle this, there’s only one way. WarGames!”
At that point, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss came out in their gear and WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles as fans wondered what else could happen. Bliss told Charlotte that Triple H and Shawn argue more than they do, and then Flair said that the women have always run NXT. Charlotte Flair then said the 4 Horsewomen, Paige, Asuka, Carmella and Alexa Bliss contributed that success. Bliss wrapped up this incredible opening segment by saying that “if you’re not down with that, then we’ve got two words for you,” and fans yelled, “Suck it!”
