Injuries take toll in Army football lineup ahead of North Texas game

by

The third depth chart for the 2025 Army football season has a handful of critical changes due to injuries.

Quarterback Cale Hellums will get his second consecutive start after directing Army to a come-from-behind win at Kansas State on Sept. 6. Dewayne Coleman started the Tarleton State game, but was injured twice. Coleman took warmups in Kansas but did not appear; he is expected to work out this week and be prepped to fill-in.

Nose tackle Kody Harris-Miller, who was injured in the opener vs. Tarleton State, will miss his second game, with Jacob Tuioti filling in as starter again.

Running backs Hayden Reed and Jake Rendina were both injured against Kansas State. Reed is expected to work out this week but remains questionable — he remains listed as a starter, though. Rendina is not expected to return this week.

Liam Fortner was not listed on the KSU depth chart but did get the start at wide receiver — he is slated on the No. 1 squad this week.

Army will host its second home contest of the season on Saturday, Sept. 20, when the Black Knights take on North Texas. Game time is noon ET (CBS Sports Network). The Mean Green — which has not posted a winning record since 2018 — is off to a 3-0 start for the eighth time in program history and first since 2018. North Texas beat Lamar (51-0), Western Michigan (33-30 in OT on road) and Washington State (59-10).

Army is 6-2 all-time against North Texas, dating back to 1996. Army won 14-3 in Denton last season. This will be UNT’s first visit to Michie Stadium since 2016.

The initial Army two-deep chart had 18 seniors, 29 juniors, six sophomores and a lone freshman — plebe Bryson Banks of Lawrenceville, Ga., a product of the U.S. Military Academy Prep School, is slated as backup at inside linebacker to senior co-captain Kalib Fortner. The 2024 opening depth chart against Lehigh had 22 seniors, 17 juniors, 19 sophomores and no freshmen.
