The NXT North American Championship received a big spotlight at Homecoming.
WWE NXT’s September 16 episode was a very special one. This included a very special North American Title match with a returning Superstar.
Tyler Breeze made his way out, with selfie stick in tow. It was great to see him back in Full Sail Arena, and he was more than ready to capture his first singles title in WWE.
Ethan Page entered the match with a sour look on his face, and he was ready to prove that he is the greatest North American Champion. This match got started a bit slow as the competitors felt each other out, but then this all-Canadian match picked up the pace a bit.
This match stretched through a commercial break, and Prince Pretty was able to come back just as they came back to the live show. Vic Joseph made an up, up, down, down reference as the match continued with Breeze eating an Ego’s Edge, but he kicked out at two.
Tyler Breeze mounted a comeback, including a Sharpshooter, but Ethan Page was able to fight out of it. Breeze hit a Superkick, but Page kicked out at two. After taking a few more moves from Tyler Breeze, Ethan Page kicked out of another close near fall. At one point, fans chanted, “that was 3!”
Ethan Page was able to win the match after nailing a Twisted Grin from the top rope. This was a hard-fought match, and it was one that could have gone either way at a certain point.
Tyler Breeze was released from his WWE contract on June 25, 2021, along with tag team partner Fandango. His final WWE match took place on the June 15 episode of NXT, where the team defeated Imperium. It was great to see him back in the ring, and this only shows that he certainly still has it.
