Checking in on former Michigan State football QBs at their next stop

by

Michigan State football is off to a 3-0 start to the season, being led by Oregon State transfer quarterback Aidan Chiles, who is truly having a breakout season for the Spartans.

When Chiles arrived, it was a peculiar time for the Spartans, having been in the midst of a coaching change, Michigan State also had three quarterbacks on their roster that would go on to start at different schools via the transfer portal.

Sam Leavitt moved on to Arizona State, Katin Houser is now at East Carolina and Noah Kim is currently at Eastern Michigan after a stop at Coastal Carolina. All three have earned starting jobs for the 2025 season.

With the 2025 season a quarter of the way finished, it is a perfect time to check in on how the former Spartans are performing in their next endeavors:

The most prominent quarterback to leave MSU, Leavitt is now at Arizona State, where he helped lead the Sun Devils to the College Football Playoff a year ago. Now, in 2025, he is without Cam Skattebo, and is forced to shoulder more of the load. The Sun Devils are off to a 2-1 start, losing a game on the road to Mississippi State in week two.

Following his Spartan career, Houser moved on to East Carolina, where he has survived another coaching change but has seemingly fit in nicely, while taking on a leadership role. The Pirates are 2-1 this season, with a narrow loss to NC State. A big game against BYU is on the docket for ECU this weekend.

After spending a year at Coastal Carolina, Kim came back up north and is playing for Eastern Michigan in the MAC. Earning the starting job, Kim is heading the Eagles offense in 2025. Unfortunately, the Eagles are off to an 0-3 start, but the offense is not really the problem in Ypsilanti.
