Wisconsin basketball coach Greg Gard throws flawless first pitch at Milwaukee Brewers game

Wisconsin basketball coach Greg Gard threw out a flawless first pitch at the Milwaukee Brewers‘ game on Tuesday.

Gard, who was at the game with program veteran John Blackwell and recent transfer addition Andrew Rohde, delivered a strike from the pitcher’s mound. Former Wisconsin Badger and Green Bay Packer lineman Mark Tauscher, meanwhile, spiked his into the grass ahead of the home-plat cutout.

Gard and the two key starters in the Badgers’ projected rotation attended the game to promote their upcoming games in Milwaukee this season: an exhibition vs. Oklahoma on Friday, Oct. 24, and a marquee showdown against the Villanova Wildcats on Dec. 19. The two contests are part of a loaded nonconference slate that also includes games against BYU (neutral site), Providence (neutral site), TCU/Florida (neutral site) and Marquette.

The Badgers are projected as one of the top teams in college basketball entering the season. Much of that is due to the team’s impressive transfer cycle, which included the additions of Rohde, San Diego State guard Nick Boyd and Portland forward Austin Rapp. That trio is set to complement Blackwell and Nolan Winter in Gard’s starting lineup, one that should be among the Big Ten’s best.

Gard already got the season started on the right foot on Tuesday. Here is his pitch, video courtesy of CBS58’s Scott Grodsky.
