The Watchung Hills High School football team needed its veterans to step up after mass graduation losses that have left the Warriors with a young roster and not a ton of experience. Three games in and with a 2-1 record, it’s been senior captain and two-year starter Dillon Nunes who has been that guy, and he’s done it in nearly every way a player can have an impact on the football field.

Nunes, who is the MyCentralJersey.com Big Central Football Conference Player of the Week for Week 2, has excelled in all three phases.
He’s hauled in clutch touchdown passes, like the three grabs he made last week for 106 yards, two of which went for scores.
He’s done it in the defensive secondary defending passes, including the two interceptions he recorded in the 14-9 triumph over North Hunterdon last weekend.
And he’s done it on special teams, handling all the kicking and punting, going 2-for-2 kicking extra points against North after booting the game-winning field goal opening day against Moorestown.

For the season, Nunes has 12 catches for 212 yards and three touchdowns, has three total interceptions and nine solo tackles and is 4-for-5 on PATs and 2-for-2 on field goals, including a 39-yarder.
“He is our jack of all trades this year,” Watchung Hills coach Rich Seubert said. “It seems like each season there’s a guy who never comes off the field, and he is that guy for us this year. He catches touchdowns on offense, breaks up passes on defense, punts, kicks extra points, kicks field goals and he kicks off. He does it all, and he does it really well for us.”
