Georgia’s Gunner Stockton ranked as one of college football’s top quarterbacks

by

Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton has been ranked among college football’s 10 best starting quarterbacks after his impressive Week 3 performance against the Tennessee Volunteers. Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY ranks Stockton as the No. 8 quarterback in the country.

Myerberg claims that Stockton’s performance in Georgia’s 44-41 overtime win at Tennessee “proved that Stockton is more than capable of going throw for throw with the best quarterbacks in the SEC” and we have to agree. Stockton delivered with clutch fourth down conversions and a key two-point conversion to tie the game.

Stockton has seven total touchdowns, 845 total yards and no interceptions through three games. Stockton’s QBR of 88.9 ranks No. 7 in the country. His dual-threat ability has opened up the Georgia rushing offense a bit compared to the Carson Beck era. However, Beck has had an excellent year too. In fact, Myerberg ranks Beck as his top quarterback through three weeks.

Beck’s accuracy and efficiency have been on another level this season. He leads the nation in completion percentage at 79.3% and has helped Miami start the season 3-0 and earn a top 10 national ranking.

For now, it appears that things worked out well for both Gunner Stockton at Georgia and Carson Beck at Miami, but things change fast in college football. Just remember, Georgia fans weren’t happy with Stockton after his Week 2 performance before he became the hero against Tennessee.
