San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle picked up the Rookie of the Year honors for the 2024-2025 NBA season. The former UConn Huskies guard rode into the NBA as the fourth overall pick after winning the 2024 NCAA title.
Castle followed Victor Wembanyama giving the Spurs their fourth ROTY honors and their first back-to-back trophies.

On Tuesday, the WNBA announced Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers, who was the first overall draft pick, claimed the WNBA Rookie of the Year honors.
Buckers, like Castle, attended UConn, and like Castle, she won an NCAA title with her Huskies. In her rookie season, Bueckers averaged 19.s points, 5.4 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game.
UConn, already known for their basketball program, currently have 8 former students in the NBA including four from the 2024 title team. There were 15 former players in the WNBA this season.
