Joao Fonseca made a memorable Laver Cup debut in San Francisco. The 19-year-old Brazilian defeated Flavio Cobolli 6-4, 6-3 in an hour and 26 minutes, bringing Team World's first point of the competition.
Joao wrote the Laver Cup's history by becoming the first teenager with the singles victory. The younger player got broken two times and kept the pressure on the other side after taking almost half of the return points.
Cobolli struggled behind the first and second serve and played against nine break points, losing serve four times and finishing on the losing side.

Flavio denied two break points in the fourth game of the duel and gained a boost. He provided a cracking winner at 2-2 and clinched a break at 15 that sent him in front before holding for 4-2.
Fonseca pulled the break back in game eight after a massive forehand error from his opponent and held at love in the next one with a service winner to move 5-4 in front.
Cobolli served to stay in the set in game ten and faced three set points after spraying a double fault. He netted a routine backhand on the third, sending his rival 6-4 in front after 48 minutes.

A teenager cracked a forehand winner in the third game of the second set for a hold at love and a made a push on the return in the next one. He created a break chance with a winner at the net and welcomed Flavio's terrible forehand to move 3-1 in front.
It was Fonseca's turn for a poor forehand in game five, losing serve and bringing his opponent back to the positive side. However, the Italian suffered another break in game six and fell 4-2 behind.
The Brazilian cemented the break with a powerful serve in game seven and served for the win at 5-3. Joao held at 15 with a forced error, sealing the deal and celebrating his first Laver Cup win at 19.
