Michigan State football suffers first loss of 2025 at the hands of USC

by

Michigan State football has suffered their first loss of the 2025 football season, going on the road to Los Angeles and losing a late night affair to USC, 45-31.

A game dominated by the Trojans, Michigan State never quit, trailing by as much as 21 in this game, but always fighting to get back into the game. Down three touchdowns in the third quarter, MSU cut it down to a 7-point game heading into the fourth quarter, scoring 14 unanswered points.

Unfortunately, in the fourth quarter, Michigan State could not make the big play defensively that was necessary to truly make this a close football game.

Offensively, it wasn’t perfect by any means, but the Spartans did do some nice things in the game, and also scored 31 points. Aidan Chiles finished 12-for-21 and 212 yards with three touchdowns. Makhi Frazier led the rushing attack with 14 att. for 61 yards, while Omari Kelly had 6 catches for 133 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, it was a gross effort for MSU, giving up 45 points and 523 yards. USC had 234 yards through the air and 289 yards on the ground.

MSU will get a bye week next before going on the road once again to face off against Nebraska on Oct. 4.
