Notre Dame football got its first win in the 2025 season on Saturday evening, after a long weather delay, the Irish fended off upset minded Purdue 56-30.
It was a solid win for Notre Dame, but unlike most victories, social media had a mixed reaction to what they all saw. The same problems that the Irish had in its first two games, continue to show, and while it did result in the outcome we all wanted to see, it wasn’t perfect.

Take a look below at some of the top social media reactions to Notre Dame defeating Purdue at home on Saturday.
Offense looked great, defense not so much
I think it’s pretty safe to say that this is the general sentiment after the Irish’s first victory of the 2025 season. The offense, which many weren’t sure of this fall, is trending as a strength, while the defense still has issues.
Happy with defensive coordinator Chris Ash?
Notre Dame did give up 30-points to Purdue, but a touchdown was in garbage time. Even if you take that out of the equation, three scores to the Boilermakers seems like a bad result. I still don’t think Freeman makes a move, but there was some improvement on Saturday.

Shoot outs every week
I’m not sure I can mentally handle Notre Dame in a shoot out every weekend, but that is the way this team is trending. They can score plenty of points, but have had more than a few breakdowns on defense. Points are fun when you’re on offense, but not so much on the other side.
Two Notre Dame greats agree on the running backs
Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price combined to score six touchdowns and accounted for over 325-yard from scrimmage, so it was a pretty impressive days for the backs. This isn’t much of a surprise, as the duo can match up against any other pair in the country.

CJ Carr celebrates his first Notre Dame victory
It must have been hard for Carr to watch two other quarterbacks celebrate a win before he got to, but I’m sure it made this moment even sweeter for him. There are more victories in his future, but he’s alway cherish his first.
The frustration for the defense is legit
For many younger Notre Dame fans, they’ve never felt what it feels like to see the Irish win a championship. There have been a few close calls, but no titles since 1988. Ever since undergrad has never seen Notre Dame win a title, and the frustration with the defense, when the offense is trending to elite status is deserved.

CJ Carr is just scratching his surface
After it looked like Kenny Minchey had a leg-up on the starting job, Freeman went with the upside in Carr. We are all seeing what he can do, and this game was his best to date. His ceiling is extremely high, and we are just seeing the early stages of Carr’s development.
Jadarian Price doesn’t get enough credit
Any diehard Notre Dame fan saw Price last year, and muttered that he could start almost anywhere else in the country. After scoring four times on Saturday, he proved that exact point. The Irish have one of, if not the, best duo of running backs in the country.
