Hicks, the number one GBR barebow despite being just 18, said: “It feels so good, like last year I was losing to Ludvig Rohlin, I wanted to get revenge this week, just win and I’m really pleased I’ve done so. Both times at the Europeans, in qualification I’ve scored higher than all the men, so I’m really happy with how I’ve been shooting.”
Hicks, who starts a university course in computer science next week, intends to balance archery and studying in the near future.
In senior compound men, top seed Mathias Fullerton, after getting the better of Nicolas Girard who beat him in Gwangju, was clinical in the final against Federico Pagnoni to take another senior international victory.
The compound women’s final was perhaps a minor upset and the only blip in the GBR armour, as Amanda Mlinaric edged out Ella Gibson for the title via a shoot-off. Gibson, the world number two, still just has a single individual victory to her name in 2025.
