Haris Rauf gets support from Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif after 6-0 gesture; ICC to be involved?

Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has sparked a fresh controversy with his provocative gestures during his team’s six-wicket loss to India in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four match in Dubai on Sunday, September 21. Haris Rauf forgot all the rules to just silence the Indian crowd in Dubai.

Rauf found himself at the centre of the controversy after Indian fans began taunting him over Virat Kohli’s famous back-to-back sixes against him in the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Frustrated by the constant chants, the Pakistani fast bowler responded with a “6-0” hand gesture, referencing Pakistan’s unverified claim of shooting down six Indian fighter jets during the Operation Sindoor conflict.

Even Rauf mimicked crashing plane gestures along the boundary line as he reacted to the continuous jeers from the Indian fans during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four game on Sunday. Earlier, Sahibzada Farhan celebrated his fifty with a gun gesture, which only intensified the ongoing tension.

Pakistani players’ gesture already left Indian fans infuriated. Now, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif added fuel to the fire after the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash between India and Pakistan by backing Haris Rauf’s controversial Rafale-downing gestures in Dubai.

In a social media post, Khawaja Asif praised Rauf’s actions, calling it a strong response, and linked his gesture to Pakistan’s disputed claim of shooting down six Indian fighter jets, including Rafales, during the military conflict earlier this year after the Pahalgam attack.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister emphasised that cricket matches come and go, but the “6-0” moment will be remembered by India and the world for a long time. His post intensified the controversy. However, Rauf is yet to react to his controversial gesture.

Khawaja Asif posted on X. “Haris Rauf is treating them right. Keep it up. Cricket matches keep happening, but 6/0 will not be forgotten by India until Judgement Day, and the world will remember it too.”

His comments sparked a political storm as the Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj questioned the BCCI and ICC for organising the match with Pakistan.

Political storm erupts after Haris Rauf’s “6-0” and Sahibzada Farhan’s AK-47 gesture

He stated, “Why didn’t we walk out right then? In the India-Pakistan match, the Pakistani player is making a mockery of India in front of the whole world. He is making gestures of shooting down the Indian jet.”

“Why were Pakistanis given such a world-class platform? Curse on the BJP’s central government. By playing 2-2 matches with Pakistan, they have told the entire world that everything is fine with Pakistan. And their such antics?”

On the other hand, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut slammed the ICC chairman Jay Shah for allowing the India-Pakistan clash.

He posted, X: “Sahibzada Farhan just proved on the field how Pakistani terrorists slaughtered 26 innocents in Pahalgam—gunning them down like it was nothing. Reached his fifty and gripped the bat like an AK-47, firing boundaries! This spit in the face of the BCCI & the Modi government is peak humiliation. For enabling India’s shame, Jay Shah deserves the Bharat Ratna.”
