Melvin Guillard is calling it quits.
The 21-year MMA veteran announced his retirement Saturday following a 27-second knockout of Terry Wiggins at a Ragin FC event in Lake Charles, La. It was the first MMA win for Guillard since July 2014, and it ended a 12-fight winless streak (including one no-contest).

“It’s that time,” Guillard said. “I have well over 200 fights and it’s been a great run, but I’m ready to do something else.”
Guillard steps away from competition with an MMA record of 33-24-2 (2 no-contests). “The Young Assassin” emerged as a star with the UFC in the 2000s after joining the promotion following a stint on The Ultimate Fighter 2. His best run came as a lightweight when he recorded eight wins in nine fights from 2008-2011 to put himself on the cusp of a title shot, with several highlight-reel knockouts along the way. However, Guillard hit a slump at the end of his octagon run and closed out his UFC account at 12-9 (1 no-contest).
Following his UFC departure, Guillard failed to regain his form, winning just two of his last 14 MMA fights. He found some success in the bare-knuckle realm, scoring a pair of knockout wins, but going 2-6 overall including an 0-4 run with BKFC.
