Michigan State basketball names team captains for upcoming season

by

Michigan State basketball is back on the floor, and the captains for the 2025-26 season have been officially named by head coach Tom Izzo.

The Spartans held their first official practice of the 2025-26 season on Monday, which included a media session with Izzo following the practice. As part of the media session, Izzo named the team captains for the upcoming season: point guard Jeremy Fears Jr., forward Coen Carr, forward Jaxon Kohler and center Carson Cooper.

All four of the Spartans team captains for the upcoming season are upperclassmen that have been with the program since the start of their careers. All have starting and/or significant playing time experience during their careers, and are expected to be key players in the upcoming season.

According to Stephen Brooks of 247Sports, Izzo felt it was important to announce the team captains and establish this at the beginning of the preseason.

Michigan State will play its first exhibition game on October 23 against Bowling Green. Prior to that is “Michigan State Madness” on October 3.
