When Gervonta Davis steps into the ring to fight Jake Paul, it’ll look and feel nothing like what he’s used to.
Davis and Paul are set to headline a Netflix-streamed boxing event that takes place Nov. 14 at Kaseya Center in Miami. Already much has been made about the size discrepancy between the two men, which is why the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission refused to sanction the bout, prompting the location change from Atlanta to South Florida.
Now we know the rules set, which was announced by Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian during a press conference Monday in New York.
What are the rules for Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis?
The rules for Paul vs. Davis are as follows:
- The fight is scheduled for 10 rounds.
- Each round is 3 minutes.
- The weight limit is 195 pounds.
- The fighters will use 12-ounce gloves.
- Three judges will score the bout to determine a winner if it goes the distance.
While Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) will enter as the clearly more decorated fighter given his current standing as the WBA lightweight champion, he could face a tall task in Paul (12-1, 7 KOs). Literally speaking, Davis is listed at 5-foot-5 compared to Paul at 6-1. Paul was 199.5 pounds for his most recent fight compared to Davis weighing 133.75 for his controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1.
Aside from the massive size difference, which was evident during their first face off Monday, one component of the rule set seems to work heavily against Davis in that he’s used to competing in 8-ounce gloves worn by boxers who compete at 147 pounds or below. Paul has typically competed in 10-ounce gloves, aside from the 14-ounce gloves worn for the Mike Tyson fight last November.
