Michigan State football dropped its first game of the season this past weekend, but they still remain safely in USA TODAY Sports’ latest bowl projections.

Erick Smith of USA TODAY Sports released an updated batch of bowl projections on Tuesday morning, and while there were shifts at the top of college football, there was no changes for where he has the Spartans. Once again this week, Smith has Michigan State landing in the GameAbove Sports Bowl in his latest projections.

The GameAbove Sports Bowl is played at Ford Field in Detroit on December 26.

There was a slight update for the Spartans’ projection from last week, as Smith has updated the projected opponent to Ohio from the Mid-American Conference. Last week, Smith had Michigan State facing Toledo in this bowl game.

Michigan State is 3-1 on the season and off this week on a bye. The Spartans will return to action next week in an important game against Nebraska.
