Diamondbacks keep Wild Card chase alive with win vs. Dodgers

by

PHOENIX — The Diamondbacks came from behind to beat the Dodgers, 5-4, on Tuesday night and kept alive their hopes of capturing the final NL Wild Card spot.

The win, combined with the Mets’ win and the Reds’ loss, means Arizona is now tied with the Reds, both teams one game behind the Mets, who currently hold the No. 3 Wild Card spot with five games to play.

Arizona owns the tiebreaker over the Mets, but not against the Reds.

The Dodgers built a 4-0 lead behind six outstanding innings from Shohei Ohtani, but the Diamondbacks began their rally against the Los Angeles bullpen with a three-run seventh that included a two-run, pinch-hit homer by Adrian Del Castillo.

With Dodgers closer Tanner Scott on the mound to open the ninth, a pitch hit Ildamaro Vargas and Tim Tawa drew a four-pitch walk. After a James McCann sacrifice bunt, Jorge Barrosa delivered a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

Geraldo Perdomo then singled to left to score Tawa from second and give the Diamondbacks a walk-off win.
